Independence

I wrote this poem when my now ten year old was just a small child and was just learning to crawl and stand and do all of the things that babies do for the first time.  The difference was that she was my fourth and final child and I was savoring every move that she made because I knew that she definitely my last. Independence

Today you learned to stand. What will be next? Goodbye to those days of total dependence. Believe it or not, I will miss them!  Each new step that you take leads you away from me.  Each new task that you master makes you need me less.  I applaud your courage in facing new daunting hurdles.  I pray I am as brave overcoming my obsticles as you.
